The US Vegan Climate Exchange Traded ETF (ticker VEGN) listed on the New York Stock Exchange this week on September 10, 2019.

It's classified as the word's first vegan friendly and climate conscious ETF. Animal advocates, environmentalists and those interested in socially responsible investing (SRI) now have an ethical stock investment option that is both cruelty-free and fossil fuel-free.

The VEGN ETF avoids investing in companies whose activities are incompatible with a vegan and climate-conscious approach to investing. Excluded are businesses engaged in animal exploitation, including animal testing or animal derived products, companies that use animals in sport or entertainment or hunting and trapping. As well, other factors for exclusion include human rights abuses, tobacco products, fossil fuels extraction and energy production and other environmentally damaging activities.

The top 10 holdings in VEGN include:

  1. Apple Inc. (4.98%)
  2. Microsoft Corp (4.80%)
  3. Facebook Inc (3.33%)
  4. AT&T (3.12%)
  5. Intel Corp (2.89%)
  6. Visa Inc-Class A Shares (2.84%)
  7. Mastercard Inc-Class A (2.79%)
  8. Comcast Corp-Class A (2.63%)
  9. Verizon Communications Inc (2.61%)
  10. Bank Of America Corp (2.56%)

"Our aim is to help vegans and animal activists take the pain out of their portfolios," explains Claire Smith, CEO of Beyond Investing. "So many compassionate people go to great efforts to avoid buying products that contain animal ingredients or have been subject to cruel testing, but when it comes to their investment options, they're actively, albeit often unwittingly, supporting companies and industries that exploit and torture animals. Our ETF offers them the opportunity to invest in line with their values. And because we love humans as much as other animals, we have defense and human rights screens as well."
