Exposing animal cruelty should not be a crime

The images of happy farm animals, we can see them everywhere — in ads gracing sides of milk cartons or on the covers of children’s books — but this is not the reality for many animals raised for food.

On many farms across Canada, piglets have their tails cut and teeth clipped, chickens are bred for such large growth it causes deformities and many dairy cows spend their lives tied to a stall unable to roam.

Farm animals can also be transported without food, water or rest for over 24 hours to slaughterhouses, often in crowded conditions and can suffer heat exhaustion in the summer or freeze to death in the winter.
